O dia 1º de dezembro é o Dia Mundial de Luta contra a Aids. A data foi criada com o intuito de reduzir o preconceito contra a doença, pois, apesar da maior parte da população ter conhecimento sobre a forma de transmissão, a desinformação ainda gera a discriminação contra os portadores da doença.
A aids é a doença causada pela infecção do Vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana (HIV é a sigla em inglês). Esse vírus ataca o sistema imunológico, que é o responsável por defender o organismo de doenças. Com isso, o sistema de defesa vai aos poucos perdendo a capacidade de responder adequadamente, tornando o corpo mais vulnerável a doenças.
